A lot of questions have arisen concerning the new bat standards for 2012 for baseball. These have come about due to safety concerns with the newer bat technologies. To summarize the rules below, new bats for ages 12 and below must have a BPF rating of 1.15 or less stamped on a bat. An older bat may be used as long as it has "Approved for Play in Dixie Youth Baseball" stamped on it. There are no changes for Pony league (age 13-14), the only requirement being that players must use a "big barrel" bat. Colt league (age 15-19) must have BBCOR stamped on the bat and length-to-weight difference is -3.
Here are the rules for bats for the 2012 season:
Dixie Youth (age 5-12) - 2 1/4" barrel non-wood bats which are manufactured to achieve a Bat Performance Factor (BPF) of 1.15 or less through the life of the bat are approved for play in "Dixie Youth Baseball". Non-wood bats include aluminum/metal alloy bats and bats made with composite materials. NOTE: All 2 1/4" composite barrel bats manufactured by a licensed bat company which are clearly marked "Approved for Play in Dixie Youth Baseball" and stamped "BPF 1.15" will be legal for league and tournament play if it has a manufacture date stamp of 2011 or later. Older aluminum/metal alloy 2 1/4" bats which do not have the BPF 1.15 stamp on the bat are allowed if stamped approved for play in Dixie Youth Baseball. Any bat stamped for T-Ball cannot be used in games played in other age groups.
A list of approved bats for Dixie Youth can be found at: http://youth.dixie.org/Assets/dixie+youth+baseball/pdf/Approved+Composite+Bat+Listing+-+2012.pdf
Dixie Boys (age 13-14) - Wooden, metal, or graphite bats manufactured specifically for 13 and above Boys and Majors play which have a minimum 2 1/2 inch barrel to 2 5/8 inch barrel diameter are approved. Bats manufactured for use by 12 and under baseball programs shall not be used. There are no weight to length limitations.
Dixie Majors Baseball (age 15-19) - Effective with the 2012 season, BBCOR is the approved bat standard for Pre-Majors & Dixie Majors Baseball. Note: The length-to-weight "difference" (i.e. -3) will be maintained through BBCOR standards.

As we all know, our scoreboards are almost 20 years old and are beyond repair. We will be installing new scoreboards. We will start with a few fields, then add more as each one gets funded. That is where we need your help in funding the project. There will be four sponsor panels on each scoreboard. If anyone has a business or knows of a company who wishes to advertise, then please contact Sam Goodwin at sgoodwin@baabonline.com. It will certainly be great exposure for a business and would help a worthwhile cause at the same time.
You can submit an evaluation of
your team's manager and coach through this website! This is
a very important process because it allows the BAAB Board of
Directors to review the performance of our managers and
coaches -- thus providing you and your child with the best
experience possible. To evaluate your team's manager and
coach, go to your team's page by selecting your league from
the Baseball or Softball menus and then clicking
on your team name. The link to the evaluation form appears
above the game schedule. It only takes a minute, but it's
one of the most important pieces of feedback you can provide
your association.
